Understanding jihad as self-struggle

maulana, unka ek aur sawal hai, unhon ne likha hai: "as i understand jihad, its a war with in my self to change my self, not a real war of destruction. it can not be a harmful term if its in any holy book, but thats not how the word is being used today. it has been distorted, this bringing a bad name to islam. how can a peaceful word that talks of self inquiry be distorted so much in today times? and why is no one making an attempt to stop this distortion of words?
