رَّبَّنَآ إِنِّيٓ أَسۡكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِي بِوَادٍ غَيۡرِ ذِي زَرۡعٍ عِندَ بَيۡتِكَ ٱلۡمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجۡعَلۡ أَفۡـِٔدَةٗ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهۡوِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡ وَٱرۡزُقۡهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَشۡكُرُونَ
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful
The hilly and desert world of ancient Makkah was a natural training ground for the realization of God; the entire panorama of nature was an encouragement to man to remember Him. The only sign of human construction here, which claimed man’s attention, was the stone mosque, the Ka‘bah, built by Abraham and Ishmael. Here man could enter and engage in the remembrance of God. In this atmosphere, the children of Ishmael were miraculously provided with water from the Zamzam spring. Moreover, it was so arranged that they received sustenance (rizq) from produce which was not grown there. This was, in fact, a special arrangement to make them grateful. With the provision of extraordinary bounties, extraordinary feelings of gratefulness arise in man. This was the wisdom which was hidden in Abraham’s prayer that in the desert they should be provided with sustenance in the shape of fruits.
قدیم مکہ جہاں بنو اسماعیل بسائے گئے وہاں کی پہاڑی اور صحرائی دنیا گویا خدا کی معرفت کی قدرتی تربیت گاہ تھی۔ دوسری طرف وہاں انسانی تعمیرات کے اعتبار سے واحد قابل لحاظ نشان کعبۃ اللہ تھا۔ ایک طرف فطرت کاماحول انسان کے اندر خدا کی یاد ابھارنے والا تھا۔ اس کے بعد اپنے قریب اس کو جو نمایاں چیز نظر آتی تھی وہ حضرت ابراہیم اور حضرت اسماعیل کی بنائی ہوئی پتھروں کی مسجد تھی جس میں داخل ہو کر وہ خدا کی یاد میں مشغول ہوجائے۔
پھر اس ماحول میں بنو اسماعیل کو معجزاتی طورپر زمزم کے ذریعہ پانی مہیا کیا گیا۔ اسی کے ساتھ ان کے لیے یہ انتظام کیا گیا کہ ایسی پیدوار سے ان کو رزق ملے جو ان کے قدموں کے نیچے پیدا نہیں ہوتا۔ یہ گویا ان کو شاکر بنانے کا خصوصی اہتمام تھا۔ غیر معمولی نعمت سے آدمی کے اندر شکر کا غیر معمولی جذبہ ابھرتاہے۔ اور یہی وہ حکمت ہے جو حضرت ابراہیم کی اس دعامیں چھپی ہوئی تھی کہ صحرا میں انھیں پھلوں کی روزی دے ۔
