ثُمَّ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ أَنِ ٱتَّبِعۡ مِلَّةَ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفٗاۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ
Then We revealed to you, [O Muhammad], to follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of those who associate with Allah
In the Quran Abraham (Ibrahim) has been presented as a paragon of virtue. Why did he become such an exemplary person? Because in the face of the generally vitiated atmosphere, he was the only man who was steadfast in his Faith. All alone he stood for God, with nobody there to support him. Abraham had completely surrendered to the will of God. In the world-wide polytheistic atmosphere, he had devoted himself to the Faith of monotheism. He considered all things to have been received from God, and for that his heart was full of gratitude to God. Due to his perfect Faith, God opened all the paths of guidance for him and selected him for prophethood, so that he might acquaint the people of the world with the religion of God. Abraham was given the good things of this world (wa ataynahu fi’d dunya hasanah) as well as the good things of the Hereafter. It is known that in this world Abraham had neither crowds surrounding him nor the throne of power nor any of the other trappings of worldly glory. Nevertheless, the Quran testifies that he was given good things of the world at God’s behest. This shows that in the eyes of God the betterment of the world hinges neither on public popularity nor on wealth or power, but on what are described here as the characteristics of Abraham.
حضرت ابراہیم کو قرآن میں خداکے مطلوب انسان کے نمونہ کے طورپر پیش کیا گیاہے۔ وہ انسانوں كے ليے نمونہ كيسے بنے۔ اس لیے کہ وہ ماحول کے بگاڑ کے علی الرغم تنہا ایمان پر قائم ہونے والے انسان تھے۔ وہ اکیلے خداکے لیے کھڑے ہوئے جب کہ اس راہ میں کوئی ان کا ساتھ دینے والانہ تھا۔
حضرت ابراہیم پوری طرح اپنے آپ کو خدا کی پابندی میں دئے ہوئے تھے۔ انھوںنے عالم گیر مشرکانہ ماحول میں اپنے آپ کو توحید کے لیے یکسو کرلیا تھا۔ وہ تمام چیزوں کو خدا کی طرف سے ملی ہوئی چیز سمجھتے تھے اور ان کے لیے ان کا دل خدا کے شکر کے جذبہ سے بھرا رہتاتھا۔ حضرت ابراہیم کے اس کمالِ ایمان کی وجہ سے خدا نے ان پر اپنی ہدایت کی راہیں کھول دیں اور ان کو پیغمبری کے لیے چن لیا تاکہ وہ دنیا والوں کو خدا کے دین سے آگاہ کریں۔
حضرت ابراہیم کو دنیا کا حسنہ (بہتری) دی گئی اور آخرت کی بہتری بھی۔ یہ معلوم ہے کہ دنیا میں حضرت ابراہیم کو نہ عوام کی بھیڑ ملی، نہ اقتدار کا تخت، اور نہ اور کوئی دنیوی رونق کی چیز۔ اس کے باوجود قرآن کی یہ گواہی ہے کہ ان کو خدا کی طرف سے دنیا کی بہتری ملی تھی۔ اس سے معلوم ہوا کہ خدا کی نظر میں دنیا کی بہتری نہ عوامی مقبولیت کا نام ہے اور نہ دولت وحکومت کا۔ بلکہ دنیا کی بہتری خدا کی نظر میں اصلاً وہی چیزیں ہیں جن کو یہاں حضرت ابراہیم کی خصوصیات کے طور پر بیان کیا گیا ہے۔
