قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي وَهَنَ ٱلۡعَظۡمُ مِنِّي وَٱشۡتَعَلَ ٱلرَّأۡسُ شَيۡبٗا وَلَمۡ أَكُنۢ بِدُعَآئِكَ رَبِّ شَقِيّٗا
He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy
This is the prayer of one who had grown very old while pursuing a religious mission and failed to find among his family members anybody to carry on his task after him. The feeling of his own helplessness on the one hand, and the realization of the tremendous importance of his mission on the other, combine in the prayer expressed in these verses. In other words, this was not a mere prayer for a son in the usual sense: it was a prayer for a worthy successor capable of carrying on his prophetic mission after him.
یہ اس بندہ کی زبان سے نکلی ہوئی دعا ہے جو دین کا مشن چلاتے ہوئے بالکل بوڑھا ہوگیا تھا۔ اور اہل خاندان میں کوئی شخص اس کو نظر نہیں آتا تھا جو اس کے بعد اس کے مشن کو جاری رکھے۔ ایک طرف اپنا عجزاور دوسری طرف مشن کی اہمیت۔ یہ دونوں احساسات اس کی زبان پر اس دعا کی صورت میں ڈھل گئے جو مذکورہ آیات میں نظر آتے ہیں۔ گویا یہ عام معنوں میں محض ایک بیٹے کی دعا نہ تھی۔ بلکہ اس بات کی دعا تھی کہ مجھے ایک ایسا لائق شخص حاصل ہوجائے جو میرے بعد میرے پیغمبرانہ مشن کو جاری رکھے۔
