يَٰزَكَرِيَّآ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ ٱسۡمُهُۥ يَحۡيَىٰ لَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ سَمِيّٗا
[He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name
This prayer was answered by the granting of a son—an extraordinary happening, as a son is not ordinarily born to people in such circumstances. The birth of a child to a couple, where the husband was extremely old and his wife had been barren throughout her life, was really a most unusual event. On account of this, Zachariah’s pleasure on receipt of this extraordinary and unexpected news spontaneously expressed itself as disbelief: how could he have a child when he and his wife were incapable of having children?
یہ دعا بیٹے کی صورت میں قبول ہوئی۔ ایک ایسا بیٹا جیسا بیٹا عام طورپر لوگوں کے یہاں پیدا نہیں ہوتا۔ ایک شخص جو آخری حد تک بوڑھا ہوچکا ہو ا ور جس کی بیوی پوری عمر تک بانجھ رہی ہو۔ اس کے یہاں بچہ پیدا ہونا یقیناً ایک انتہائی غیر معمولی بات ہے۔ اس بنا پر حضرت زکریا کو اس خبر پر خوشی کے ساتھ تعجب بھی ہوا۔ ملنے والی نعمت کے غیر متوقع ہونے کا احساس ان کی زبان سے ان الفاظ میں نکل پڑا کہ میرے یہاںکیسے بچہ پیدا ہوگا جب کہ میں اور میری بیوی دونوںاس اعتبار سے از کار رفتہ ہوچکے ہیں۔
