ثُمَّ عَفَوۡنَا عَنكُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَٰلِكَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ
Then We forgave you after that so perhaps you would be grateful
The Israelites were chosen by God. He selected them for a special task: they were to receive God’s scriptures and pass His commandments on to the rest of mankind. In relation to this office, they were granted many other blessings and facilities: victory over their enemies, forgiveness of their sins, special help in times of peril, divine provision for their physical needs, and so on. This misled later generations of Jews into thinking that they were God’s chosen people, and were assured of salvation in the next world. But such matters as salvation are not a hereditary right of any group. Successive generations are to be judged on their own merits. On the Day of Judgement people will be judged individually, according to their actions. To think that anything other than good deeds will avail one, is to underestimate the rigours of that Day.
بنی اسرائیل کو اللہ تعالیٰ نے تمام دنیا پر فضیلت دی تھی۔ یعنی ان کو اپنے اس خاص کام کے لیے چنا تھا کہ ان کے پاس اپنی وحی بھیجے اور ان کے ذریعہ دوسری قوموں کو اپنی مرضی سے باخبر کرے۔ پھر اس منصب کی نسبت سے ان کو اور بہت سی نعمتیں اور سہولتیں دی گئیں ۔ اپنے دشمنوں پر غلبہ، وقتی لغزشوں سے در گزر، غیر معمولی حالات میں غیر معمولی نصرت اور ’’خداوند کی طرف سے ان کے لیے روٹی کا انتظام‘‘ وغیرہ۔ اس سے ان کی بعد کی نسلیں اس غلط فہمی میں پڑ گئیں کہ ہم اللہ کی خاص امت ہیں ۔ ہم ہر حال میں آخرت کی کامیابی حاصل کریں گے۔ مگر خدا کے اس قسم کے معاملات کسی کے لیے موروثي نہیں ہوتے۔ کسی گروہ کے اگلے لوگوں کا فیصلہ ان کے پچھلے لوگوں کی بنیاد پر نہیں کیا جاتا بلکہ ہر فرد کا الگ الگ ہوتا ہے۔ خدا کے انصاف کا دن اتنا سخت ہوگا کہ وہاں اپنے عمل کے سوا کوئی بھی دوسری چیز کسی کے کام آنے والی نہیں ۔
سچی دین داری یہ ہے کہ آدمی اللہ کے سوا کسی کومعبود نہ بنائے۔ اللہ کو دیکھے بغیر اللہ پر یقین کرے۔ آخرت کے حساب سے ڈر کر زندگی گزارے۔ پاک روزی سے اپنی ضروریات پوری کرے۔ جن لوگوں پر اس کو اختیار حاصل ہے ان کو جرم کرنے سے روک دے۔
