قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify
During Abraham’s period, people’s minds were in the grip of polytheistic ideas, so much so that in the beginning they took Abraham’s criticism to be frivolous. Therefore, they asked him whether his utterances had been well thought out, or whether he was mouthing words out of sheer frivolity. Abraham said that the fact that they considered matters of the greatest importance as frivolous was further proof of their ignorance. The truth is that the entire earth and the heavens bear testimony to the word of God. The next day, in an act of extraordinary courage, he broke down their deities. In this way, Abraham proved in practice what he had been saying in theory, namely, that the deities were absolutely worthless.
حضرت ابراہیم کے زمانے میں مشرکانہ تخیلات لوگوں کے ذہنوں پر اتنا زیادہ چھائے ہوئے تھے کہ ابتداء ً وہ حضرت ابراہیم کی تنقید کو غیر سنجیدہ بات سمجھے۔ انھوں نے کہا کہ تم کوئی سوچی سمجھی بات کہہ رہے ہو یا محض تفریح کے طورپر کچھ الفاظ اپنی زبان سے نکال رہے ہو۔
حضرت ابراہیم نے کہا کہ یہ تمھاری مزید ناسمجھی ہے کہ تم اس اہم ترین بات کو غیر سنجیدہ بات سمجھ رہے ہو۔ حالاں کہ تمام زمین و آسمان اس کے حق میں گواہی دے رہے ہیں۔ اگلے دن انھوں نے مزید یہ کیا کہ غیر معمولی جرأت سے کام لے کر ان کے بتوں کو توڑ ڈالا۔ اس طرح گویا حضرت ابراہیم نے عملاً دکھادیا کہ یہ بت فی الواقع بھی اتنے ہی بے حقیقت ہیں جتنا میں نے لفظی طورپر تمھیں بتایا تھا۔
