لِّكُلِّ أُمَّةٖ جَعَلۡنَا مَنسَكًا هُمۡ نَاسِكُوهُۖ فَلَا يُنَٰزِعُنَّكَ فِي ٱلۡأَمۡرِۚ وَٱدۡعُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَۖ إِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ هُدٗى مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ
For every religion We have appointed rites which they perform. So, [O Muhammad], let the disbelievers not contend with you over the matter but invite them to your Lord. Indeed, you are upon straight guidance
There are two aspects of prayer—one is its spirit, i.e. its true inner aspect, and the other its outward ritual aspect. Inner reality is the true essence of prayer, and the outward form is extraneous. But when a group follows the outward form for a long period, it forgets the aforesaid difference. It gradually comes to consider carrying out only the outward formalities, as if they were the real prayer. This means that the group has reached the stage of mental stagnation. Hence, it has been the way of God Almighty that when He sends a new prophet, He makes some changes in his shariah (i.e. outward ritual forms). His purpose is to shake the people out of their inertia, to break their addiction to outward formalities and to make them active and live worshippers in spirit. Now, those who think that outward formality and ritual in prayer are everything, refuse to obey the prophet. On the contrary, those who know the true spirit underlying prayer start to follow the prophet’s instructions. This change infuses a new spirit into their prayers. It removes them from inert and frozen faith and takes them towards active and live faith. This is the wisdom which accounts for the rites of prayer or worship having differed from one prophet to the next. When a prophet introduced new rites, those who were sunk in inertia would raise serious objections to them. But the prophets were instructed not to allow these matters to become the subject of serious discussions and to devote their full attention to the real and basic teachings.
عبادت کے دو پہلو ہیں۔ ایک اس کی اندرونی حقیقت اور دوسرے اس کا ظاہری طریقہ۔ اندرونی حقیقت عبادت کا اصل جزء ہے اور ظاہری طریقہ اس کا اضافی جزء۔ مگر کوئی گروہ جب لمبی مدت تک اس پر کاربند رہتاہے تو وہ اس فرق کو بھول جاتاہے۔ وہ عبادت کی ظاہری تعمیل ہی کو اصل عبادت سمجھ لیتا ہے۔
اسی کا نام جمود (stagnation)ہے۔ چنانچہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی یہ سنت رہی ہے کہ جب وہ اگلا پیغمبر بھیجتا ہے تو وہ اس کی شریعت (ظاہری طریقہ) میں کچھ فرق کردیتاہے۔ اس فرق کا مقصد یہ ہوتاہے کہ لوگوں کے جمود کو توڑا جائے۔ لوگوں کو ظاہرپرستی کی حالت سے نکال کر زندہ عبادت کرنے والا بنایا جائے۔ اب جولوگ ظاہری آداب وقواعد ہی کو سب کچھ سمجھے ہوئے ہوں وہ پیغمبر کی اطاعت سے انکار کردیتے ہیں۔ اس کے برعکس، جو لوگ عبادت کی حقیقت کو جانتے ہیں وہ پیغمبر کے کہنے پر عمل کرنے لگتے ہیں۔ یہ تبدیلی ان کی عبادت میں نئی روح پیدا کردیتی ہے۔ وہ ان کو جامد ایمان کی حالت سے نکال کرزندہ ایمان کی حالت تک پہنچا دیتی ہے۔
یہی وہ خاص حکمت ہے جس کی بناپر ایک پیغمبر اور دوسرے پیغمبر کے منسک (طریقِ عبادت) میں بعض فرق رکھا گیا۔ جب کوئی پیغمبر نیا منسک لایا تو جمود میں پڑے ہوئے لوگوں نے اس کے خلاف سخت اعتراضات نکالنے شروع کئے۔ مگر پیغمبروں کو یہ حکم تھا کہ وہ ان امور کو موضوع بحث نہ بننے دیں۔ وہ اصلی اور بنیادی تعلیمات پر اپنی ساری توجہ صرف کریں اور اس كي طرف لوگوں كو دعوت ديں۔
