۞وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرّٖ لَّلَجُّواْ فِي طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُونَ
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly
In the Makkan period of Islam when the Quraysh rejected the Prophet Muhammad, God imposed famine conditions on the people of Makkah for several years. In accordance with God’s scheme of things, when a community adopts an arrogant attitude and does not accept good advice, He administers a warning punishment to that community in order to soften their hearts and make them pay attention to the Truth. But, events show that man does not learn lessons either from good or adverse conditions. The purpose of both ease and adversity is that man should turn towards God. But, man thinks that the coming of good times is the result of his own talents, while he attributes hard times to the turn of events. In this way he fails to learn a lesson from either set of conditions. Man remains heedless in this way until it is time for God’s final verdict. At that time, he is wonderstruck that what he had considered unimportant and ignored, was the greatest and most important reality of this world.
مکی دور میں جب قریش نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی دعوت کورد کردیا تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے چند سال کے ليے مکہ والوں کو قحط میں مبتلا کردیا۔ یہ قحط اتنا شدید تھا کہ بہت سے لوگ مردار کھانے پر مجبور ہوگئے۔ یہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی ایک عام سنت ہے کہ جب کوئی گروہی سرکشی اختیار کرتا ہے اور نصیحت قبول کرنے پر تیارنہیںہوتا تو وہ اس گروہ پر تنبیہی عذاب بھیجتا ہے تاکہ ان کے دل نرم ہوں اور وہ حق بات کی طرف دھیان دے سکیں۔
مگر تاریخ کا تجربہ ہے کہ انسان نہ اچھے حالات سے سبق لیتا هے اور نہ برے حالات سے۔ دونوں قسم کے حالات کا مقصد یہ ہوتا ہے کہ آدمی اللہ کی طرف رجوع کرے۔ مگر انسان یہ کرتا ہے کہ وہ اچھے حالات کو اپنی تدبیر کا نتیجہ سمجھ لیتاہے اور برے حالات کو زمانہ کے الٹ پھیر کا۔ اس طرح وہ دونوں ہی قسم کے واقعات سے سبق لینے سے محروم رہتا ہے۔
آدمی اسی طرح غفلت میں پڑا رہتا ہے يہاں تک کہ خدا کا آخری فیصلہ آجاتا ہے۔ اس وقت وہ حیران رہ جاتا ہے کہ وہ چیز جس کو اس نے غیر اہم سمجھ کر نظر انداز کردیا تھا وہی اس دنیا کی سب سے بڑی اور سب سے اہم حقیقت تھی۔
