أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَيۡفَ مَدَّ ٱلظِّلَّ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ لَجَعَلَهُۥ سَاكِنٗا ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَا ٱلشَّمۡسَ عَلَيۡهِ دَلِيلٗا
Have you not considered your Lord - how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication
The phenomenon which in the present age is known as the axial rotation of the earth has been set down here in layman’s language. The earth rotates on its axis once in twenty-four hours, due to which day and night follow upon each other. This is a wonderful miracle of Almighty God’s power. Had there been no axial rotation of the earth, half of it would have been continuously under the blazing sun, while the other half would have been continuously enveloped by night. Thus it would have been extremely difficult to live on the earth. There are many lessons in this system of the earth. Just as the light of day necessarily follows the darkness of night; in the same way untruth will be followed by Truth. Similarly, waking up in the morning after sleeping at night is symbolic of resurrection in the life after death. Likewise, there is a lesson hidden in the system of the rains. Just as the dead earth is revived thanks to the rains, so also does God’s guidance instil faith and fear of God in a heart which otherwise would have become as lifeless as an arid land.

گھنٹے میں ایک بار گھوم جاتی ہے۔ اسی سے رات اور دن پیدا ہوتے ہیں۔ یہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی قدرت کا ایک حیرت انگیز کرشمہ ہے۔ اگر زمین کی محوری گردش نہ ہو تو زمین کے نصف حصہ پر مسلسل تیز دھوپ رہے۔ اور دوسرے نصف حصہ پر مسلسل رات کی تاریکی چھائی رہے۔ اور اس طرح زمین پر زندگی گزارنا انتہائی حد تک دشوار ہوجائے۔
زمین کے اس نظام میں بہت سی معنوی نصیحتیں موجود ہیں۔ جس طرح رات کی تاریکی کے بعد لازماً دن کی روشنی آتی ہے۔ اسی طرح ناحق کے بعد حق کا آنا بھی اس زمین پر لازمی ہے۔ رات کو سو کر دوبارہ صبح کو اٹھنا موت کے بعد دوبارہ آخرت کی دنیا میں اٹھنے کی تمثیل ہے، وغیرہ۔
اسی طرح بارش کے نظام میں اس کے مادی پہلو کے ساتھ عظیم معنوی سبق کا پہلو بھی چھپا ہوا ہے۔ جس طرح بارش سے مردہ زمین سر سبز ہوجاتی ہے اسی طرح خدا کی ہدایت اس سینہ کو ایمان اور تقویٰ کا چمنستان بنادیتی ہے جس کے اندر واقعی صلاحیت ہو، جو بنجر زمین کی طرح بے جان نہ ہوچکا۔
