فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers
The false self-confidence of the ‘Ad community prevented them from accepting the preaching of their prophet and they went to the extent of ridiculing it. They took their prosperity in the world as God’s reward. They failed to understand the secret that man is given worldly effects by way of trial and not because he deserves them. When it was finally established that they were not going to accept the Truth, God had them lashed by stormy winds and heavy rains, which continued to wreak havoc for a week. The result was that the entire nation with its grand culture was destroyed. Now, the only sign of this nation, whose land had once been fertile and well populated is the desert which stretches far and wide between the present-day Oman and Yemen.
قوم عاد کا جھوٹا اعتماد اس کے ليے پیغمبر کی بات کو ماننے میں رکاوٹ بن گیا ۔ حتی کہ وہ اس کے پیغام کا مذاق اڑاتی رہی۔ وہ دنیا میں اپنی خوش حالی کو اس بات کی علامت سمجھتی رہی کہ وہ خدا کی انعام یافتہ ہے وہ لوگ اس راز کو نہ سمجھ سکے کہ دنیا کا اثاثہ آدمی کو بطور امتحان ملتاہے، نہ کہ بطور استحقاق۔
جب آخری طور پر ثابت ہوگیا کہ وہ حق کو ماننے والے نہیں ہیں تو خدا نے طوفانی ہوا اور شدید بارش بھیجی جو ایک ہفتہ تک مسلسل اپني تمام خوفناکیوں کے ساتھ رات دن جاری رہی۔ نتیجہ یہ ہوا کہ پوری قوم اپنے شان دار تمدن سمیت برباد ہو کر رہ گئی۔ اس قوم کا نشان اب صرف وہ ریگستان ہے جو موجودہ عمان اور یمن کے درمیان دور تک پھیلا ہوا ہے۔ قدیم زمانہ میں یہ علاقہ نہایت شاداب اور آباد تھا۔ مگر اب وہاں کسی قسم کی زندگی نہیں پائی جاتی۔
