قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ يَٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُخۡرَجِينَ
They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted
The area to the south and east of the Dead Sea now appears to be deserted. But, from 2300 to 1900 B.C., it was a very flourishing area, inhabited by the people of Lot. In spite of his continuous preaching, they did not reform themselves. On the contrary, they were out to kill him. Then they were destroyed by a severe earthquake. One part of this area is buried in the Dead Sea, while the other part exists only in the shape of ruins. This event happened four thousand years ago. Lot’s wife could not rise above the traditions of her community. In spite of being the prophet’s wife, she remained loyal to her community’s religion. As a result, when God’s punishment was administered, she was killed along with the common unbelievers.
بحیرۂ مردار (Dead Sea)کے جنوب اور مشرق کا علاقہ آج ویران حالت میں نظر آتا ہے۔ مگر 1900-2300 ق م کے زمانہ میں وہ نہایت سرسبز علاقہ تھا۔ قوم لوط اسی علاقہ میں آباد تھی۔ حضرت لوط کی مسلسل تبلیغ کے باوجود انھوں نے اپنی اصلاح نہیں کی حتی کہ وہ آپ کو قتل کرنے کے درپے ہوگئے۔ اس وقت انھیں زبردست زلزلہ کے ذریعہ ہلاک کردیا گیا۔ اس برباد شدہ علاقہ کا ایک حصہ بحر مردار کے نیچے دفن ہے اور ایک حصہ کھنڈر بناہواپڑا ہے۔ یہ واقعہ اب سے چار ہزار سال پہلے پیش آیا۔
حضرت لوط کی بیوی اپنے آپ کو قومی روایات سے اوپر نہ اٹھا سکی۔ وہ پیغمبر کی بیوی ہونے کے باوجود اپنے قومی مذہب کی وفادار بنی رہی۔ نتیجہ یہ ہوا کہ جب خدا کا عذاب آیا تو وہ بھی عام منکرین کے ساتھ ہلاک کردی گئی۔
