وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ فَإِذَآ أُوذِيَ فِي ٱللَّهِ جَعَلَ فِتۡنَةَ ٱلنَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلَئِن جَآءَ نَصۡرٞ مِّن رَّبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمۡۚ أَوَلَيۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَعۡلَمَ بِمَا فِي صُدُورِ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah," but when one [of them] is harmed for [the cause of] Allah, they consider the trial of the people as [if it were] the punishment of Allah. But if victory comes from your Lord, they say, "Indeed, We were with you." Is not Allah most knowing of what is within the breasts of all creatures
When one who calls himself a believer, or mu’min, shows himself to be such only when some advantage is to be gained, but otherwise recants, he reveals himself to be what the Quran calls a hypocrite, or munafiq. A believer in name only, he is not prepared to pay the price of his faith. He and other people like him fail at the very juncture where they are most required to prove their moral worth.
ایک شخص اپنے کو مومن کہے ۔ مگر اس کا حال یہ ہو کہ جب مومن بننے میں فائدہ ہو تو وہ بڑھ چڑھ کر اپنے مومن ہونے کا اظہار کرے۔ مگر جب مومن بننے میں دنیوی نقصان نظر آئے تو وہ فوراً واپس جانے لگے۔ ایسا آدمی قرآن کی اصطلاح میں منافق ہے۔ یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جو بظاہر مومن تھے مگر وہ اپنے ایمان کی قیمت دینے کےلیے تیار نہیں ہوئے۔ وہ عین اسی مقام پر ناکام ہوگئے جہاں انھیں سب سے زیادہ کامیابی کا ثبوت دینا چاہیے تھا۔
