قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِي عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ
He said, "My Lord, support me against the corrupting people
Lot left Babylon and settled in Jordan. God made him a prophet and assigned to him the task of reforming his community. This community inhabited the town of Sodom near the Dead Sea and was addicted to the unnatural habit of sodomy. Through this evil, other evils had become prevalent among them. But they would not reform themselves. The words, ‘Bring down God’s punishment upon us’ were directed at Lot and not at God. Lot’s people so looked down upon Lot that, according to them, it was impossible that, on disobeying him, they would have to face God’s scourge. So, they challenged him to bring God’s punishment down on them if what he said was really true.
حضرت لوط بابل کو چھوڑ کر اردن کے علاقہ میں آگئے تھے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کو پیغمبر بنایا اور ان کو قوم لوط کی اصلاح کے کام پر مقرر کیا۔ یہ قوم بحر مردار (Dead Sea) کے قریب سدوم کے علاقہ میں رہتی تھی اور امرد پرستی کی غیر فطری عادت میں مبتلا تھی۔اسی نسبت سے دوسری برائیاں بھی ان کے اندر عام ہوچکی تھیں۔ مگر انھوں نے اصلاح قبول نہ کی۔
’’اللہ کا عذاب لاؤ‘‘ کا اصل رخ حضرت لوط کی طرف تھا، نہ کہ اللہ کی طرف۔ انھوںنے حضرت لوط کو اتنا حقیر سمجھا کہ ان کے نزدیک یہ ناممکن تھا کہ ان کی بات نہ ماننے سے وہ خدا کی پکڑ میں آجائیں گے۔ چنانچہ بطور مذاق انھوں نے کہا کہ اگر تم واقعی سچے ہو تو ہمارے اوپر خدا کا عذاب لاؤ۔
