وَقَٰرُونَ وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ وَهَٰمَٰنَۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مُّوسَىٰ بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا كَانُواْ سَٰبِقِينَ
And [We destroyed] Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman. And Moses had already come to them with clear evidences, and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment]
Whenever the addressee communities rejected the prophets sent to them, they were destroyed by calamities which burst upon them either from the heavens or from the earth. Lot’s community was subjected to the curse of high-velocity winds that bore stones. The ‘Ad, the Thamud and the people of Midian were punished by thunder and lightning sent down upon them. Korah, at God’s behest, was swallowed by the earth. Pharaoh and Haman were drowned in the sea. The common reason for all these punishments was the false pride of the concerned persons, i.e. their rejecting the call of Truth for the reason that it would put an end to their high status.
انبیاء کی مخاطب قوموں نے جب اپنے نبی کا انکار کیا تو ان کو زمینی اور آسمانی عذاب سے ہلاک کردیا گیا — قوم لوط پر عاصب (پتھر برسانے والی طوفانی ہوا) کا عذاب آیا۔عاد اور ثمود اور اصحاب مدین پر صیحہ (رعد وبرق) کا عذاب آیا۔ قارون کےلیے خسف (زمین میں دھنسا دینے) کا عذاب آیا۔ فرعون اور ہامان کےلیے غرق (سمندر کے پانی میں ڈبا دینے) کا عذاب آیا۔
ان تمام عذابوں کا مشترک سبب لوگوں کا گھمنڈ تھا۔ یعنی حق کی دعوت کو اس ليے نہ ماننا کہ اس کو ماننے سے اپنی بڑائی ختم ہوجائے گی۔
