إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوۡاْ مِنكُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡجَمۡعَانِ إِنَّمَا ٱسۡتَزَلَّهُمُ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ بِبَعۡضِ مَا كَسَبُواْۖ وَلَقَدۡ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٞ
Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two armies met, it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some [blame] they had earned. But Allah has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing
On the occasion of Uhud, ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy counselled that the defence of Madinah should be undertaken within the walls, instead of the Muslims boldly coming out to meet the enemy. The Prophet, however, at the instance of some other sincere Muslims, went out of the city to meet the enemy, posting his men strategically on Mount Uhud. The battle began well for the Muslims, but turned to near defeat because of the disobedience of a band of fifty archers who had been given the task of guarding a certain pass. Seeing the imminent Muslim victory, they abandoned their posts, attracted by the prospects of booty. When this victory turned into defeat, the hypocrites who had deserted the Muslims even before the battle started, on the pretext that their counsel had not been accepted by the Prophet, began to say that, had their words been heeded, this calamity could have been averted. But death is decreed by God and comes regardless of circumstances. No precautionary measure can save one from death. Such happenings, whatever their apparent reason, are wrought by God, in order that His true believers may turn to Him in repentance and become worthy of further blessings from Him. Such happenings also serve to reveal the truth about those who are not the true servants of God. When the fifty archers posted at the Mount Uhud pass saw that the Muslims had won the battle, a large number of them insisted on going in pursuit of booty. Although ‘Abdullah ibn Jubayr and a few other companions pointed out that it was against the orders of the Prophet, they deserted their posts, leaving behind eleven men. Satan thus made inroads by using the dissension already evident among them. However, when they admitted their error, they were forgiven by God, and after the initial setback, God’s succour came to them too. The Almighty struck terror into the hearts of their enemies, which resulted in their retreat, although they were just a few miles from Madinah. Had God’s succour not come, there was nothing to stop them from forcing their entry into Madinah and uprooting the nascent tree of Islam.
زندگی کے معرکہ میں سب سے زیادہ اہمیت اس بات کی ہوتی ہے کہ آدمی کا چین اس سے رخصت نہ ہو۔ وہ پوری یکسوئی کے ساتھ اپنا منصوبہ بنانے کے قابل رہے۔ اللہ پر بھروسہ کی وجہ سے اہلِ ایمان کو یہ چیز کمال درجہ میں حاصل ہوتی ہے۔ حتی کہ ہلادینے والے موقع پر جب کہ لوگوں کی نیندیں اُڑ جاتی ہیں، اس وقت بھی وہ اس قابل رہتے ہیں کہ ایک نیند لے کر دوبارہ تازہ دم ہوسکیں۔ احد کے موقع پر اس کا ایک مظاہرہ اس طرح ہوا کہ شکست کے بعد سخت ترین حالات کے باوجود وہ سو سکے اور اگلے دن حمراء الاسد تک دشمن کا پیچھا کیا، جو مدینہ سے ۸ میل کے فاصلے پر ہے۔ اس کے نتیجہ میں فاتح دشمن مرعوب ہو کر مکہ واپس چلا گیا۔ یہ سچے اہل ایمان کا حال ہے۔مگر جو لوگ پورے معنوں میں اللہ کو اپنا ولی وسرپرست بنائے ہوئے نہ ہوں، ان کو ہر طرف بس اپنی جان کا خطرہ نظر آتا ہے۔ دین کی فکر سے خالی لوگ اپنی ذات کی فکر میں پڑے رہتے ہیں وہ اللہ کی نصرتِ اطمینان میں سے اپنا حصہ نہیں پاتے۔
احد کے موقع پر عبد اللہ بن اُبي کی رائے تھی کہ مدینہ میں رہ کر جنگ کی جائے۔ مگر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مخلص مسلمانوں کے مشورہ پر باہر نکلے اور احد پہاڑ کے دامن میں مقابلہ کیا۔ درّہ پر متعین دستہ کی غلطی سے جب شکست ہوئی تو ان لوگوں کو موقع ملا۔ انھوں نے کہنا شروع کیا کہ اگر ہماری بات مانی گئی ہوتی اور مدینہ میں رہ کر لڑتے تو اس بربادی کی نوبت نہ آتی۔ مگر موت خدا کی طرف سے ہے اور وہیں آکر رہتی ہے جہاں وہ کسی کے لیے لکھی ہوئی ہے۔ احتیاطی تدبیریں کسی کو موت سے بچا نہیں سکتیں۔ اس طرح کے واقعات، خواہ بظاہر ان کا جو سبب بھی نظر آئے، وہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہوتے ہیں۔ تاکہ اللہ کے سچے بندے اللہ کی طرف رجوع کرکے مزید رحمتوں کے مستحق بنیں۔ اور جو سچے نہیں ہیں ان کی حقیقت بھی کھل کر سامنے آجائے۔
احد کے درہ پر جو پچاس تیر انداز متعین تھے جب انھوں نے دیکھا کہ مسلمانوں کو فتح ہوگئی ہے تو ان میں سے کچھ لوگوں نے اصرار کیاکہ چل کر مال غنیمت لوٹیں ۔ مگر عبد اللہ بن جبیرؓ او ران کے کچھ ساتھیوں نے کہا نہیں۔ ہم کو ہر حال میں یہیں رہنا ہے کیوں کہ یہی رسول اللہ کا حکم ہے۔ بالآخر گیارہ کو چھوڑ کر بقیہ لوگ چلے گئے۔ باہمی اختلاف کی اس کمزوری سے شیطان نے اندر داخل ہونے کا راستہ پالیا۔ تاہم انھوں نے جب اپنی غلطی کا اعتراف کیا تو اللہ نے ان کو معاف کردیا اور ابتدائی نقصان کے بعد ان کی مدد اس طرح کی کہ دشمنوں کے دل میں رعب ڈال کر ان کو واپس کردیا۔ حالاں کہ اس وقت وہ مدینہ سے صرف چند میل کے فاصلے پر رہ گئے تھے۔
