وَإِذۡ قَالَ لُقۡمَٰنُ لِٱبۡنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَٰبُنَيَّ لَا تُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٞ
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice
Little has been recorded in history about Luqman, except that he was a wise and God-fearing man. The Quran says that Luqman was a grateful subject of God and who, as a father, advised his son to save himself from polytheism. Polytheism holds that beings other than God are man’s benefactors and that, man should direct his feelings of gratitude towards them. The belief in the oneness of God stems from the intense realisation that God is the sole benefactor of man and as such all his gratitude should be shown only to that One.
لقمان حکیم کی تاریخی حیثیت کے بارے میں ابھی تک قطعی معلومات حاصل نہیں ہوسکی ہیں۔ تاہم وہ ایک دانش مند اور خدا پرست آدمی تھے۔
قرآن بتاتا ہے کہ لقمان حکیم خدا کے ایک شکر گزار بندے تھے۔ اور اپنے بیٹے کو انھوں نے شرک سے بچنے کی تلقین کی۔ یہ دونوںباتیں ایک ہیں۔ توحید اللہ کو اپنا محسن سمجھنے کے احساس سے ابھرتی ہے۔ اور شرک یہ ہے کہ آدمی اللہ کے سوا کسی اور کو اپنا محسن سمجھ لے اور اس کےلیے اپنے احسان مندی کے جذبات نچھاور کرنے لگے۔ جب دینے والا صرف ایک ہے تو شکر گزاری بھی صرف ایک ہی کی ہونی چاہيے۔
