وَلَوۡ أَنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗا وَمِثۡلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفۡتَدَوۡاْ بِهِۦ مِن سُوٓءِ ٱلۡعَذَابِ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۚ وَبَدَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يَكُونُواْ يَحۡتَسِبُونَ
And if those who did wrong had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby from the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from Allah that which they had not taken into account
Those believed by polytheists to be potential intermediaries between them and God were not simply stone statues. They were actually the statues of great men who lived among them. These supposed intermediaries were in reality their national heroes to whom they owed allegiance and who, they believed, would be adequate mediators before God. Those who entertain such beliefs about beings other than God, gradually reach the point where their loyalty is dedicated solely to these beings. They are pleased to hear the praises of these beings; the proclamation of the Majesty of the One and only God does not nourish their souls. With such people, howsoever one advocates the cause of the pure Unity of God, they do not accept it. Their eyes will open only when, on the Day of Judgement, the Majesty of God reveals itself. Today, man is not even ready to offer words of acceptance, but at that time (on the Day of Judgment), he will wish to offer whatever he has as compensation in order to save himself. But, on that Day, nothing will be of avail to him except the merit of his own deeds.
عرب کے مشرکین جن کے متعلق یہ عقیدہ رکھتے تھے کہ خدا کے یہاں وہ ان کی شفاعت کرنے والے بن جائیں گے وہ حقیقۃً پتھر کے بت نہ تھے۔ یہ وہ بزرگ ہستیاں تھیں جن کی علامت کے طور پر انھوںنے پتھر کے بت بنا رکھے تھے۔ ان کے شفعاء دراصل ان کے قومی اکابر تھے جن کے متعلق ان کا عقیدہ تھا کہ ان کا دامن پکڑے رہو، وہ خدا کے یہاں تمھارے ليے کافی ہوجائیںگے۔
جو لوگ غیر اللہ کے بارے میں اس قسم کا عقیدہ بنائیں، دھیرے دھیرے ان کا حال یہ ہوجاتا ہے کہ ان کی ساری عقیدتیں اور شیفتگیاں ان ہی غیر خدائی شخصیتوں کے ساتھ وابستہ ہوجاتی ہیں۔ ان شخصیتوں کی بڑائی کا چرچا کیا جائے تو اس کو سن کر وہ خوب خوش ہوتے ہیں۔ لیکن اگر ایک خدا کی بڑائی بیان کی جائے تو ان کی روح کو اس سے کوئی غذا نہیں ملتی۔
ایسے لوگوں کے سامنے خواہ کتنے ہی طاقت وردلائل کے ساتھ توحید خالص کو بیان کیا جائے وہ اس کو ماننے والے نہیں بنتے۔ ان کی آنکھ صرف اس وقت کھلتی ہے جب کہ قیامت کا پردہ پھاڑ کر خدا کا جلال بے نقاب ہوجائے۔ آج آدمی کا حال یہ ہے کہ وہ اعتراف کے الفاظ دینے کےلیے بھی تیار نہیں ہوتا مگر جب وہ وقت آئے گا تو وہ چاہے گا کہ جو کچھ اس کے پاس ہے سب اس سے بچنے کےلیے فدیہ میں دے ڈالے۔ مگر وہاں آدمی کے اپنے اعمال کے سوا کوئی چیز نہ ہوگی جو اس کے کام آسکے۔
