كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ وَٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ وَهَمَّتۡ كُلُّ أُمَّةِۭ بِرَسُولِهِمۡ لِيَأۡخُذُوهُۖ وَجَٰدَلُواْ بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ لِيُدۡحِضُواْ بِهِ ٱلۡحَقَّ فَأَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ
The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty
Here the ‘signs of God’ (ayatullah) means the arguments advanced to establish the veracity of the divine mission. Those who are not serious with regard to God, raise irrelevant points in these arguments and thus create doubt in the minds of the people that this call is not a true call but only a flight of imagination on the part of the preacher. Bickering of this kind constitutes a very great sin. However, in the present world of trial, those who indulge in bickering are given respite only temporarily and for a fixed period. Thereafter, they are destined to face the same miserable fate as was faced by the communities of Noah, ‘Ad, Thamud, etc. Those who considered themselves great were belittled, while those who were considered of no account by others were treated as great before God.
یہاں آیات اللہ سے مرادوہ دلائل ہیں جو دعوت حق کو ثابت کرنے کےلیے پیش کيے گئے ہوں۔ جو لوگ خدا کے معاملہ میں سنجیدہ نہ ہوں وہ ان دلائل میں غیر متعلق بحثیں پیدا کرکے لوگوں کو اس شبہ میں ڈالتے ہیں کہ یہ دعوت حق کی دعوت نہیں ہے بلکہ محض ایک شخص (داعی) کی ذہنی اپج ہے۔
اس قسم کا جھوٹا مجادلہ بہت بڑا جرم ہے۔ تاہم موجودہ امتحان کی دنیا میں ایسے لوگوں کو ایک مقرر مدت تک مہلت حاصل رہتی ہے۔ اس کے بعد ان کےلیے وہی برا انجام مقدر ہے جو قوم نوح، قوم عاد، قوم ثمود وغیرہ کا ہوا۔ جن لوگوں نے اپنے کو بڑا سمجھا تھا وہ چھوٹے کردئے گئے۔ اور جن لوگوں کو چھوٹا سمجھ لیا گیا تھا وہ اللہ کے نزدیک بڑے قرار پائے۔
