وَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَسۡتَمِعُ إِلَيۡكَ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا خَرَجُواْ مِنۡ عِندِكَ قَالُواْ لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًاۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ
And among them, [O Muhammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allah has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires
It is characteristic of a hypocrite when he is in a serious-minded gathering, to seem to be outwardly very serious while his mind is busy with other things. He does not pay any attention to the words spoken by the preacher. When he comes out of the gathering, he asks other knowledgeable persons, ‘What did the venerable gentleman say?’ This is the price they have to pay on account of their desire-worship. They mire themselves in desire-worship and then are overwhelmed by it. Instead of allowing reason to prevail, they follow their own desires. The result is that their sensitivities become blunted and their minds do not remain capable of grasping the finer shades of reality. Unlike them, those who give importance to reality, and who bow down before true arguments, activate their intellect in the process. The inner knowledge and intense realisation of such individuals increase day-by-day. Their faith is never vitiated by their falling into a state of inertia.
منافق آدمی کی ایک پہچان یہ ہے کہ وہ سنجیدہ مجلس میں بیٹھتا ہے تو بظاہر بہت با ادب نظر آتا ہے مگر اس کا ذہن دوسری دوسری چیزوں میں لگا رہتا ہے وہ مجلس میں بیٹھ کر بھی مجلس کی بات نہیں سن پاتا۔ چنانچہ جب وہ مجلس سے باہر آتا ہے تو دوسرے اصحاب علم سے پوچھتا ہے کہ ’’حضرت نے کیا فرمایا‘‘۔
یہ وہ قیمت ہے جو اپنی خواہش پرستی کی بنا پر انہیں ادا کرنی پڑتی ہے۔ وہ اپنے اوپر اپنی خواہش کو غالب کرلیتے ہیں۔ وہ دلیل کی پیروی کرنے کے بجائے اپنی خواہش کی پیروی کرتے ہیں۔ اس کا نتیجہ یہ ہوتا ہے کہ دھیرے دھیرے ان کے احساسات کند ہوجاتے ہیں۔ ان کی عقل اس قابل نہیں رہتی کہ وہ بلند حقیقتوں کا ادراک کرسکے۔
اس کے برعکس، جو لوگ حقیقتوں کو اہمیت دیں، جو سچی دلیل کے آگے جھک جائیں، وہ اس عمل سے اپنی فکری صلاحیت کو زندہ کرتے ہیں۔ ایسے لوگوں کی معرفت میں دن بدن اضافہ ہوتا رہتا ہے۔ ان کو ابدی طور پر جمود سے نا آشنا ایمان حاصل ہوجاتا ہے۔
