مُّحَمَّدٞ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلۡكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ تَرَىٰهُمۡ رُكَّعٗا سُجَّدٗا يَبۡتَغُونَ فَضۡلٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَٰنٗاۖ سِيمَاهُمۡ فِي وُجُوهِهِم مِّنۡ أَثَرِ ٱلسُّجُودِۚ ذَٰلِكَ مَثَلُهُمۡ فِي ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِۚ وَمَثَلُهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡإِنجِيلِ كَزَرۡعٍ أَخۡرَجَ شَطۡـَٔهُۥ فَـَٔازَرَهُۥ فَٱسۡتَغۡلَظَ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَىٰ سُوقِهِۦ يُعۡجِبُ ٱلزُّرَّاعَ لِيَغِيظَ بِهِمُ ٱلۡكُفَّارَۗ وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ مِنۡهُم مَّغۡفِرَةٗ وَأَجۡرًا عَظِيمَۢا
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward
The Prophet Muhammad had to perform a historic role which is referred to in the Quran as making religion predominant. For this he needed a group of men of high calibre. Such men were available to him thanks to Ishmael, their progenitor, having been settled in the Arabian desert two thousand five hundred years before. With such ancestry it was the most vibrant group of history. When their full potential was tapped, thanks to Quranic instruction, the Arabs turned into a nation of heroes. The importance of this group was so great in the eyes of God that He informed the prophets about them in advance. In the Torah their individual qualities were mentioned while, in the Bible, their collective qualities were emphasized. The quality of the individuals in this group was made manifest in their unyielding behaviour towards the aggressors. Their behaviour was governed by principles and not by their desires or emotions. Their temperament was such that they bowed down before God and were engrossed in prayers to and praise of God.
پیغمبر اسلام کو ایک عظیم تاریخی کردار ادا کرنا تھا جس کو قرآن میں اظہارِ دین کہا گیا ہے۔ اس تاریخی کردار کے لیے آپ کو اعلیٰ انسانوں کی ایک جماعت درکار تھی۔ یہ جماعت حضرت اسماعیل کو عرب کے صحرا میں آباد کر کے ڈھائی ہزار سال کے اندر تیار کی گئی۔ یہ ایک حقیقت ہے کہ بنو اسماعیل کا یہ گروہ تاریخ کا جاندار ترین گروہ تھا۔ ان کی یہ بالقوہ صلاحیت جب قرآن سے فیض یاب ہوئی تو پروفیسر مارگولیتھ کے الفاظ میں، عرب کی یہ قوم ہیرووں کی ایک قوم (a nation of heroes) میں تبدیل ہوگئی۔ اس گروہ کی اہمیت خدا کی نظر میں اتنی زیادہ تھی کہ ان کے بارے میں اس نے پیشگی طور پر اپنے پیغمبروں کو باخبر کردیا تھا۔ چنانچہ تورات میں ان کی انفرادی خصوصیت درج کردی گئی تھی اور انجیل میں ان کی اجتماعی خصوصیت۔
اس گروہ کے فرد فرد کی یہ خصوصیت بتائی کہ وہ منکروں کے لیے سخت اور مومنوں کے لیے نرم ہیں۔ یعنی ان کا رویہ اصول کے تحت متعین ہوتا ہے، نہ کہ محض خواہشات اور جذبات کے تحت۔ شاہ عبدالقادر صاحب اس کی تشریح میں لکھتے ہیں ’’جوتندی اور نرمی اپنی خو ہو وہ سب جگہ برابر چلے اور جو ایمان سے سنور کر آئے وہ تندہی اپنی جگہ اور نرمی اپنی جگہ‘‘۔ اسی طرح ان کے افراد کا مزاج یہ ہے کہ وہ خدا کے آگے جھکنے والے اور اس کی عبادت اور ذکر میں لگے رہنے والے ہیں۔ خدا کی طرف ان کی توجہ اتنی بڑھی ہوئی ہے کہ اس کا نشان ان کے چہروں پر نمایاں ہورہا ہے۔ اصحاب رسول کی یہ صفات اس تفصیل کے ساتھ موجودہ محرف تورات میں نہیں ملتیں۔ تاہم کتاب استثناء (
33:2
) میں قدسیوں (Saints) کا لفظ ابھی تک موجود ہے۔
البتہ انجیل کی پیشین گوئی آج بھی مرقس (
4:26-32
)اور متی (
13:31-32
) میں موجود ہے۔ یہ تمثیل کی زبان میں اس بات کا اعلان ہے کہ اسلام کی دعوت ایک پودے کی طرح مکہ سے شروع ہوگی۔ پھر وہ بڑھتے بڑھتے ایک طاقتور درخت بن جائے گی۔ یہاں تک کہ اس کا استحکام اس درجہ کو پہنچ جائے گا کہ اہل حق اس کو دیکھ کر خوش ہوں گے اور اہل باطل غصه و حسد میں مبتلا ہوں گے کہ وہ چاہنے کے باوجود اس کا کچھ بگاڑ نہیں سکتے۔
