وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُواْ حَرَّمۡنَا مَا قَصَصۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ
And to those who are Jews We have prohibited that which We related to you before. And We did not wrong them [thereby], but they were wronging themselves
When feelings of arrogance and prejudice add up to evil, the individual in question will not be ready to steer clear of it, though many arguments may be advanced to prove his actions wrong. But there is another kind of evil which arises due to stupidity. A man sometimes errs due to his lack of knowledge or to his being dominated by his own desires. Such a man generally exhibits no bravado. When his mistake is made clear by argument, he immediately turns back and sets himself on the right path once again. There is no question of pardon for the first category of people. But as for the second category, there is the good news that God will extend His grace to them because He is truly merciful on this subject.
یہود کی مذہبی کتابوں میں بعض ایسی کھانے کی چیزیں حرام ہیں جو اسلام کی شریعت میں حرام نہیں کی گئی ہیں (النساء،

)۔ اس کی وجہ یہ نہیں ہے کہ خود خدا نے دو قسم کے احکام دئے ہیں۔ یہود پر بھی اصلاً وہی غذائی چیزیں حرام ٹھیرائی گئی تھیں جو یہاں (النحل، آیت

) میں مذکور ہیں۔ مگر بعد کو یہود نے خود ساختہ تصورات کے تحت کچھ جائز چیزوں کو اپنے اوپر حرام کرلیا۔ پیغمبروں کی فہمائش کے باوجود وہ اپنے اس خود ساختہ دین کو چھوڑنے پر تیار نہیں ہوئے۔
مزید یہ کہ اولاًانھوں نے خدا کے حلال کو حرام کیا اور اس طرح اپنے آپ کو ناحق مصیبتوں میں ڈالا۔ اور پھر جب وہ اس حرام پر قائم نہ رہ سکے تو عقیدۃً اس کو حرام سمجھتے ہوئے عملاً اس کواپنے لیے جائز بنالیا۔ اس طرح وہ دہرے مجرم بن گئے۔
آدمی اگر کسی خود ساختہ نظریہ کے تحت ایک جائز چیز کو اپنے لیے ناجائز بنالے اور اس کی خاطر قربانیاں دینا شروع کردے، تو یہ محض اپنی جان پر ظلم کرنا ہوگا، نہ کہ خدا کے راستے ميں قربانی پیش کرنا۔
