يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ قُل لِّأَزۡوَٰجِكَ إِن كُنتُنَّ تُرِدۡنَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَزِينَتَهَا فَتَعَالَيۡنَ أُمَتِّعۡكُنَّ وَأُسَرِّحۡكُنَّ سَرَاحٗا جَمِيلٗا
O Prophet, say to your wives, "If you should desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and give you a gracious release
The Hijrah (migration to Madinah) had greatly disrupted the economy of the Muslims. Moreover, after the Hijrah, the enemies of Islam kept the Muslims continuously engaged in wars. As a result, the economic condition of the Muslims had seriously deteriorated. The greatest impact of this condition was on the Prophet Muhammad. It was difficult to provide even the bare necessities of life to the members of his household. Things reached the stage when his consorts were forced to demand maintenance. What his consorts asked for was basic necessities, but this was mentioned by God as a demand for worldly glitter—possibly too forceful an expression, just like the expression ‘shameful acts’ (fahishah). The Prophet had been assigned the most important mission in history, i.e. bringing to an end the age of polytheism and ushering in an era of monotheism. Under these circumstances, it was not possible for him to give importance to anything else. So, the consorts of the Prophet were told that either they should live contentedly with the Prophet and display greater endurance or, if that was not acceptable, to seek separation gracefully, but that raising domestic problems and thus diverting the attention of the Prophet could not be countenanced.
ہجرت نے مسلمانوں کی معاشیات کو درہم برہم کردیا تھا۔ مزید یہ کہ ہجرت کے بعد اسلام دشمنوں نے مسلمانوں کو مسلسل جنگ میں الجھا دیا۔ اس کا نتیجہ یہ ہوا کہ مسلمانوں کی معاشی حالت بالکل برباد ہو کر رہ گئی۔
اس کا سب سے زیادہ اثر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پرپڑا۔ آپ کے گھر والوں کا حال یہ ہوا کہ ناگزیر ضرورت کی فراہمی بھی مشکل ہوگئی۔ یہاں تک کہ آپ کی ازواج نے تنگ آکر آپ سے نفقہ (خرچ) کا مطالبہ شروع کردیا۔
ازواج کی طرف سے صرف ضروری خرچ کا مطالبہ کیاگیا تھا۔ اس کو اللہ نے زینتِ دنیا کے مطالبہ سے تعبیر فرمایا۔ یہ دراصل شدتِ اظہار ہے۔ اسی طرح ’’بے حیائی‘‘ کا لفظ بھی یہاں شدتِ اظہار کےلیے آیا ہے۔ پیغمبر اسلام صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تاریخ کے ایک اہم ترین مشن کی تکمیل پر مامور تھے، یعنی دورِ شرک کا خاتمہ اور دورِ توحید کا قیام۔ ایسی حالت میں کسی بھی دوسری چیز کو اہمیت دینا آپ کےلیے ممکن نہ تھا۔ اس ليے ازواجِ رسول سے فرمایاگیا کہ یا تو صبر اور قناعت کے ساتھ رسول کے ساتھ رہو۔ اور اگر یہ منظور نہیں ہے تو خوش اسلوبی کے ساتھ الگ ہوجاؤ۔ خانگی نزاع کھڑی کر کے پیغمبر کے ذہن کو منتشر کرنا کسی طرح بھی قابل برداشت نہیں۔
