هُوَ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَكُمۡ خَلَـٰٓئِفَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ فَمَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَيۡهِ كُفۡرُهُۥۖ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ كُفۡرُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا مَقۡتٗاۖ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ كُفۡرُهُمۡ إِلَّا خَسَارٗا
It is He who has made you successors upon the earth. And whoever disbelieves - upon him will be [the consequence of] his disbelief. And the disbelief of the disbelievers does not increase them in the sight of their Lord except in hatred; and the disbelief of the disbelievers does not increase them except in loss
In this verse, being given ‘the earth to inherit’ (khalifah) means that ‘after the decline of the previous nations, a new nation was settled on the earth in their place.’ It is the way by which God gives a nation the opportunity to settle and make progress on the earth. If the nation proves itself incapable, He replaces it by another nation. This process of the transfer of power shall continue right until Doomsday. The advancements in the present age have made it possible even to take photographs in the dark and make an apparently inaudible sound audible to the human ear. Such possibilities indicate that the Creator of this universe is a Being who knows the unknown and is aware of the secrets hidden in one’s heart. Man therefore, is accountable before the all-knowing and all-powerful God from whom no offence remains concealed.
اس آیت میں خلیفہ سے مراد پچھلی قوموں کا خلیفہ بننا ہے۔ ’’تم کو زمین میں خلیفہ بنایا‘‘ کا مطلب ہے پچھلی قوموں کے گزرنے کے بعد تم کو ان کی جگہ زمین میں آباد کیا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ کا یہ طریقہ ہے کہ وہ ایک قوم کو زمین میں بسنے اور عمل کرنے کا موقع دیتاہے۔ پھر جب وہ قوم اپنی نا اہلی ثابت کردیتی ہے تو اس کو ہٹا کر دوسری قوم کو اس کی جگہ لے آتا ہے۔ اس طرح زمین پر ایک کے بعد ایک قوم کی آبادکاری کا سلسلہ جاری رہے گا یہاں تک کہ قیامت آجائے۔
موجودہ زمانہ میں فطرت کے جو قوانین دریافت ہوئے ہیں وہ بتاتے ہیں کہ یہاں اس کا امکان ہے کہ اندھیرے میں کسی چیز کا فوٹو لیا جائے۔ بظاہر نہ سنائی دینے والی آواز کو مشین کی مدد سے قابل سماعت بنایا جاسکے۔ تخلیق میںاس طرح کے امکانات خالق کی قدرت کاتعارف ہیں۔ اس سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اس کائنات کا خالق ایک ایسی ہستی ہے جو غیب کو جانے اور دل کے اندر چھپی ہوئی بات کو سن سکے۔ گویا انسان کا معاملہ ایک ایسے علیم اور قدیرخدا سے ہے جس سے نہ کسی جرم کو چھپایا جاسکتااور نہ یہی ممکن ہے کہ اس کے فیصلہ کو کسی طرح بدلوایا جاسکے۔
