1عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓThe Prophet frowned and turned away1 lecture →2أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰBecause there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]3وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓBut what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified4أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓOr be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him5أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰAs for he who thinks himself without need6فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰTo him you give attention7وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰAnd not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified8وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰBut as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]9وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰWhile he fears [Allah]10فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰFrom him you are distracted11كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞNo! Indeed, these verses are a reminder12فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥSo whoever wills may remember it13فِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ[It is recorded] in honored sheets14مَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭExalted and purified15بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels16كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖNoble and dutiful17قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥCursed is man; how disbelieving is he1 lecture →18مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥFrom what substance did He create him19مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥFrom a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him20ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥThen He eased the way for him21ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥThen He causes his death and provides a grave for him22ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥThen when He wills, He will resurrect him23كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥNo! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him24فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓThen let mankind look at his food25أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗاHow We poured down water in torrents26ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗاThen We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts]27فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗاAnd caused to grow within it grain28وَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗاAnd grapes and herbage29وَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗاAnd olive and palm trees30وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗاAnd gardens of dense shrubbery31وَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗاAnd fruit and grass32مَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock33فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُBut when there comes the Deafening Blast34يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِOn the Day a man will flee from his brother7 lectures →35وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِAnd his mother and his father36وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِAnd his wife and his children37لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِFor every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him38وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright39ضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞLaughing, rejoicing at good news40وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞAnd [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust41تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌBlackness will cover them42أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُThose are the disbelievers, the wicked ones
